Go FAQ - Learning to Play Go

Is Go difficult to learn?

No! - The rules of Go are simple and elegant and can be learned in half an hour. After playing a few games of Go, preferably on the smaller 9x9 board, a player starts to get a feeling of what the game is about (and is generally hooked!).

What's the best way to start learning Go?

You can download and print our "Rules of Go" pamphlet or alternatively try one of the many interactive Go learning tutorials available in the internet, for example:

Where can I get a copy of the rules of Go?

Go-Figure! offers a Go rule booklet in English and in German.

Is Go suitable for children to play?

Children as young as 4-7 years can learn to play Go. You can contact your local Go-Club for further information about existing children's Go groups and/or Go tuition. If you're thinking about setting up a Go group for children within Germany, contact the Go4School project; a non-profit organisation which aims to set-up, organise and support Go projects for young people.
